Seeking Truth and Wisdom Part I
Chapter Four: Graceful Water Splashes
"Are you ready?" asked Madam Yuki (Snow) to her student Umi (water).
Umi just nodded her head with out making a sudden movement.
" I hope I'm not putting to much pressure on you. It's just that, never
have any of the students from the Truth dance company ever made it to the final
dance competition. The ancient dance is so difficult and you learned it in a
heartbeat. You are able to do it so flawlessly, I can't help but get excited.
I know you will win," Umi couldn't help but smiling. She didn't want Madam
Yuki to worry about her. She is such a kind teacher, and loving caretaker. Umi
knew that she needed to win this so that she could make her teacher proud.
"Our next contestant is Umi from the Truth Dance Company. She will be preforming
the Ancient Dance of the Goddess of Light," There was a quiet murmer in
the crowds. Using the ancient dance as a competitor in the Seaside Dance Tournament
(which is a BIG competition in the small island town of Aoi Hikaru- Shining
Blue) must mean that the dancer is very, very good. Now Umi could feel the preassure
even more.
As she stepped onto the stage, she took a deep breath and imagined herself in
the ocean. For some reason whenever she dance she could always hear and feel
the water of the ocean around her. She it always calmed her and allowed her
to do well on her dances. As she heard the music begin, she made her first move
in the entire dance. She closed her eyes and opened them again. It happened,
whenever she opened her eyes while dancing, she always saw the water around
her. No more could she see the audience or the stage, just the glowing figure
in front of her. There was, also, a glowing figure in the shape of a young girl.
She would always be doing the ancient dance with Umi. Umi especially enjoyed
watching this mysterious figure, because the way she danced, was as if she was
making the calm waves of the ocean splash against the coast. She was happy and
continued dancing, performing graceful steps, magnificent spins, and elegent
arm motions.
The audience was absolutely stunned. They had only heard legends of the great
Goddess of Light, Truth, ever being able to dance as Umi was. But what they
were also amazed at, was the water behind the stage. It was tradition to have
it so that the dancer on the stage, had their back turned from the ocean. This
was so that the water could purify them. If they were facing the water, not
only did it show rudeness to the audience, it showed conceitedness.
But, behind Umi, the water was forming into the figure of a young girl, who
moved to the music just as Umi was. Their trance however was broken by a sudden
rumble. A great fire had suddenly burst forth from the ground. Everyone began
to flee the area. Only Madam Yuki noticed her student, who was still on the
stage, had stopped moving, but her eyes were closed.
Umi didn't know what happened. The girl in front of her stopped dancing and
was replaved with a serious expression on her face. Slowly she began to move
in a way Umi had never seen her move before. Umi didn't know what to do so she
just copied the movements, just like always. This dance was strange to her,
and although she had never practiced it before, she was moving flawlessly.
Madam Yuki just stood there, transfixed at the dance Umi was now performing.
How could she dance at a time like this? She questioned. Trying to wake her
would be like trying to get a block of concrete to be moved by the wind, in
other words, impossible. A thought then flashed across her mind, and her eyes
widened.
"Oh no....it.....it couldn't be. But, those steps...." Suddenly she
could no longer lift her gaze from her student.
The calm, reassuring water that usually flowed against Umi now started to pick
up speed, and rush around her. She did not understand this change, but then
noticed something. However she moved her hands, that was the way the water flowed.
On the outside, everyone who had been running, now stopped to watch Umi. Everyone's
attention was then cast to the water behind her. To their surprise, it had grown
twenty feet taller from before. It began to take the form of a beautiful stallion.
It let out a cry, and many other, smaller, stallions began to form at its hooves.
That is when Umi saw it. It wasn't actually a monster, but the horrible form
that the flames from the earth took was too much for her. She was about to stop
dancing completely when she met eyes with the girl in front of her. A wave of
calm rushed over her. Her eyes widened in realization at who, just who this
girl might be. She returned her gaze to the monster that now began to look like
the girl she always saw in her mind, except....darker. Nothing was making sense
and she was begining to panic. She then felt a calm, reasurring feeling wash
over her. It was coming inside, it was coming from inside her. She then closed
her eyes in her world.
Everyone gasped as Umi opened her eyes to reveal a glazed, sea blue color to
them. Then, everything seemed to slow down. Her hands by her side, Umi placed
her left foot in front of her right. She brought her hands up above her head,
palms facing out and then closed her eyes. Suddenly, as she opened her eyes,
she snapped her hands out to either side of her, and the ragind stallion and
its companions shot forward. They raced at tremendous speed, straight to the
mighty flames. Within minutes the fire was extinguished, and calm returned.
Madam Yuki caught Umi before she fell to the ground out of exhaustion. She looked
at her student with large worried eyes. For she knew what just happened and
what it ment. And she wasted no time in sending out a messenger to the main
lands, where she looked out to. The center of the world was beginning to stir.
The the chosen five would need to rise again.
