As Master Yuy walks down the steps of the temple, another earthquake hit Sapporo, Japan. At the top of the steps Master Yuy's student, Hono-ona, which means daughter of fire, barley kept her balance as the earthquake shook.
"I dread to think what is happening," thought Master Yuy.
"Oh! Master!" yelped Hono-ona, "How do you stay up during these 'quakes?" she asked picking herself up from the ground.
"Yes. How do you stay up during my earthquakes?" said a scary figure from the shadow. The person held up their hand as a tiny arrow appeared, engulfed in flames. "Well," she snickered, "this time, YOU WON'T!!" "GO!" she screamed as she tossed the arrow into the shadows. Hono-ona suddenly feels a warm sensation overtake her body. She senses something coming.
"MASTER!!!! LOOK OUT!!!!" she yelled as she lunged herself at the tiny old man. She landed on him as they both hit the floor just as the tiny arrow flew right past them, lanind in a wall, and burning a signifigant amount of the wall away before the arrow disappeared.
As Master Yuy got up and dusted himself off, he glanced over at his student, who had her fiery red eyes averted from his gaze to something else. He then smiled and sat in front of his student.
"Pray tell how you knew the arrow was coming? I do not believe teaching you that," he said. his words were soft kind and gentle. He made Hono-ona's fears of being in trouble or doing the wrong thing burn away just like the section of the wall. She could feel a king of warmth in her body. it felt as it there was a fire burning inside of her making her stronger and giving her courage, hope, and beliefe.
"Well," she started again adverting her gaze from his, but his words were still in her head. Still kind and soft "I...I felt a burning sensation inside of me. It was if that burning sensation told me that fire was coming. The closer the arrow came the warmer the burning sensation felt and the more it started to feel like there was a fire inside of me," she then quickly turned her gaze to a statue of Buddah that was sitting in the garden. She felt so foolish saying those words. She didn't want to face Master Yuy.
"That was amazing what happened, " said Master Yuy. His words surprised Hono-ona. She wasn't sure what to think. "No matter if that was what really happened, or something else, you saved my life and i am grateful for you. Now," he said claping his hands and smiling, "I think those stairs need your help. That was quite a tumble we took. While you do that, I am going to the main office to work on next week's service," Hono-ona couldn't help but smile.
"Okay she had. I will make these steps spotless!" As Master Yuy sat down in his chair he couldn't help but wonder,
"I know she was telling the truth about that burning sensation. I could even feel a warm feeling admitting from her body. She said she could sense the fire, but not the arrow and the fire didn't give off as much heat as it usaully does!! B...but if that is true then, n...n..no. It can't be!! But could it be........?"
