Chapter Four: The Real Me

Chibi Kawaii ran out the front door, taking to the skies. She felt so free when she was flying. It was like she left all her problems back on the ground. She zipped through the air, as fast as she possibly could, feeling the wind rush by her face. She looped, spun, and twirled through the air like a pixie, oblivious to the rest of the world.

She remembered she still had to get some training time in, so she found a spot to land. Coincidentally it was near the same meadow she'd been at only an hour or so earlier. *Stupid dinosaur better not show his face this time.* she though to herself. She couldn't believe some of the strange things in this world. Dinosaurs in the wild, capsules that would pop into cars and houses, she'd even heard that before the androids came they had these things called dragon balls.

She sighed, pulling out her sword. She supposed it wouldn't be much different if someone from this world showed up in Crystal Tokyo. They'd feel just as strange in her world as she did in theirs. Chibi swung the sword a few times, getting a feel for it's weight in her hand. She'd used this sword for as long as she could remember. She couldn't imagine entering battle without it. She swung hard at a nearby tree, the trunk at least a few yards in diameter and sliced it neatly through. It toppled with a shattering thud.

"Oops..."

She shrugged, looking over the blade, which was still razor sharp. It was enchanted, obviously, it never seemed to rust or chip, no matter what she had tried cutting with it. Chibi began to thrust and parry, wielding the blade with expert skill. It began to glow with energy, pulsating with a soft white light. When enough power had gathered, she shot it from the tip of the sword, lighting up the midday skies brighter than ever.

*Bulma said I have a huge power. Where is it? I'm barely stronger than I was when I came here. Still, it's not enough! I have to train harder! I have to keep pushing myself. No matter what it takes, I have to be stronger!* Chibi sighed, continuing her workout in the silence of the forest.

Meanwhile, Trunks was busy powering up as well. He sighed, remembering his dream while he did pushups in the gravity room. *It couldn't really be Chibi could it? I was probably just thinking about her so much it affected my dreams.* he thought. The sweat began to roll off his nose and drip to the floor. He continued doing pushups with one hand as he wiped his brow.

*Still, it seems strange that she didn't even seem to know about dinosaurs. I've been used to seeing those since I was a toddler! Next thing you know, she'll say she's never heard of capsules! She must not be from around here. I KNOW she's not from Tokyo like she says. Maybe she's from some obscure town half way around the world. Or maybe she's from another planet, like the Saiyans.* he paused in his thoughts. *No, that's just silly. But then again, she's hardly told us anything about her. I just get the impression she's hiding something from us.*

It was almost evening now, he'd spent all afternoon in the gravity room. He stood up, wiping his brow once more. "Whew!" he walked over to the door, turning off the gravity before leaving. He picked up his jacket and sword, which seemed to weigh nothing now, and with a sigh, let his hair change back to a light purple.

Trunks walked downstairs to see his mother. She always seemed to have good advice. Well, maybe not always good, but she was never afraid to share her opinion.

"Hey Mom?" Trunks asked.

Bulma looked up from a small object she'd been studying. "What is it Trunks?" she asked, looking back down.

"I was wondering, how come we don't know anything about Chibi? I mean, she hasn't told us who her parents are or where she was born or even about where she grew up! I'm sure you agree with me that she is definitely NOT from Tokyo." Trunks stated.

Bulma acted uninterested, "I don't know honey, why don't you just ask her? Just because she won't share her past doesn't mean she your enemy or that she's hiding something from you. Maybe there are things she's just not ready to tell you yet."

"You mean tell US yet, right? You guys aren't keeping a secret from me are you?" Trunks raised an eyebrow. "And what is that you're studying, it looks like just a pen..."

Bulma gave him a blank look, "Oh, this, it's nothing... What I mean is, don't ask me about her. If you really want to find out about Chibi, why don't you ask her yourself?" she shrugged.

"Where is she?" Trunks inquired.

Bulma shrugged again.

Trunks rolled his eyes. "Sometimes you are just SO helpful Mother..." he called as he ran back upstairs.

Sailor Chibi Kawaii was enjoying her solitary training. She felt she worked best alone. She'd had to most of her life. Everyone was always too busy with politics and other business. Consequently, she spent most of her time on her own. She saw other girls her age, flighty, airheaded, thinking of nothing but what it would be like to be in love.

*Love...* she scoffed. *Love only exists in fairy tales. No one could really meet the same way, fall in love in just days or weeks and then get married and live happily ever after. It just doesn't work that way! Look at my own parents, it took them over a thousand years before they even got married... granted they did have to be reborn and all that...* she let her thoughts wander.

Looking up into the sky, she realized the sun was setting. She hurriedly took to the skies, racing for the only place on this earth she could call home.

Trunks was just walking out the front door when he thought he saw something zip through the sky. He rubbed his eyes and it was gone. He scanned the landscape, seeing if he could find Chibi anywhere. He spotted her walking across the dusty ground towards him. He scratched his head. Usually he sensed someone's presence long before he saw them, not counting the androids of course, but he hadn't sensed anything from Chibi and he certainly didn't think she was an android.

He waited, sitting on the porch. In a few minutes, she stood before him. He gestured to the empty spot on the porch next to him. "Have a seat?" he looked up to her.

Absently she sat. It was getting cold and she rubbed her arms a bit, since she still wore the same training outfit she'd worn this morning. She stared off into the sky, her eyes searching for something.

"Hey are you cold?" Trunks looked concerned. "Here." He placed his denim jacket carefully over her shoulders, shaking her from her reverie.

"Huh?" Chibi was surprised. *Why is he being so nice?* She immediately placed her thoughts back in order, "Well, what do you want?" she asked, seeming not to care.

Trunks flinched at her sharp reply, then shrugged, "It's a nice night. I thought you might like to stay out and talk."

"I guess it couldn't hurt..." Chibi started.

Trunks looked over at her. He saw concern and other emotions mixed in her eyes. "What are you thinking about?" he asked quietly.

Chibi sighed, "Home... Looking at the night sky like this makes me wish I was back there."

Trunks smiled, "I thought you were from Tokyo, you talk like your home's a million miles away."

Chibi shrugged, "It may as well be. I don't know how I'm ever gonna get back or even what I'm supposed to do while I'm here."

"Do while you're here?" Trunks looked puzzled. *She's really NOT from around here...*

"Yeah." Chibi smiled. "Have you ever felt drawn to a certain place, a certain time, just knowing you had to be there? Maybe not even knowing why... or if you being there would even make a difference..." she drifted off.

Trunks nodded, "I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I feel like there's somewhere I'm supposed to be. Some important thing I'm supposed to do, but I'm never strong enough to accomplish..."

Chibi looked surprised, "You really feel that way? Your power is incredible, I..."

Trunks nodded, "Sometimes... It's just... compared to what I'm up against, I'm really not that strong..."

Trunks looked up, catching her eyes. They were full of understanding and he realized just how beautiful they were. His hand moved slowly across the pavement of the porch steps, catching hers. He held it for a moment, entranced, just looking in her eyes.

Bulma swung open the front door, smiling. "There you kids are! Come on in, dinner's getting cold!"

Both teens nearly jumped out of their seats. Chibi got up quickly, blushing as she walked inside. Trunks followed, his hand behind his head, laughing nervously as he passed his mother.

"Come on guys, wake up! You two can't be THAT tired from just one day of training!" Bulma said as she passed the food around the table.

"Huh?" Chibi said, lifting her head up, "Sorry Bulma..."

"It's okay, just lighten up you two!" Bulma said sternly. She immediately changed her tone of voice and smiled, changing the subject.

Surprisingly, neither teen was very hungry, but they went to bed, minds full, thinking of what was to come.
