Deathnote is the touching love story of Ryuk's search for his long lost lover, Lita. (Ole!) They spent many years together in the Columbia countryside. She was the daughter of a Columbian war lord and their love was forbidden. For he was a poor boy and she was a rich Columbian princess. They would sneak out at night to make sweet sweet love in the cocaine fields. Unfortunately her father found them as he inspectated his cocaine shipment and was furious. He pulled a gun on Ryuk, intent on destroying their love forever. But Lita jumped in the way to save her lover. And died. Her heart's blood spilled among the cocaine ruining that year's harvest with her bitter blood and tears. Making that year's shipment the worst in the history of cocaine, much was her bitterness and hatred.

Heartbroken Ryuk jumped on the Columbia war lord in his rage. But underestimated the war lord's henchmen, who gunned him down with their automatic weapons. He splattered the harvest with his bitter blood and tears. Thus, also ruining the harvest. It was a really bad year for cocaine.

So embittered was his soul that he refused to pass on and thus was made a shinigami. So he wanders through both worlds, the living and the dead, looking for the spirit of his lost lover. His hopes are to be reunited with her and use his shinigami powers to bring her back to life, so they can once again make sweet sweet love in the cocaine fields. Or anyother place that they'd like.
