This month's pick:

Oh baby, that's what I like!

Name: Hiroshi Nakano
Series: Gravitation
Birthdate: August 4
Age: 19
Bloodtype: B

Once again, I have picked a bishounen who, sadly, doesn't have that much info about him out there. So I'm just going to have to go with with I know about him from what I've seen.
First of all, if any of you are wondering what we non-yaoi purists are doing talking about a shonen-ai show, let me clear this up. Fem-Gri-La does not have a problem with same sex pairings that are OFFICIALLY in the story. It is when certain "fans" change what is originally from a series into something it's not and make characters do things we know, if we were all honest with ourselves, they would never do. When two straight guys who would never touch each other start making out, then we hold up the red flag and start wondering what people are smoking.
Also, do not mistake this as a personal plug for Gravitation. I do not recommend it to anyone. Gravitation has horrible animation, a borish plot, bad story telling, false angst, and more baby-ish crying than any day care center when it is time for mom to leave. Gravitation, in my strong opinion, has only two things going for it: a great theme song and our featured bishounen of this month. He likes the ladies
"What was that? There were hot chicks outside and I wasn't listening."
When surfing the internet, looking for information on my beloved Hiro-Kun, I was very disappointed to find there was hardly any mention of him anywhere. Why not? He's a main character! He is IN Bad Luck, the band the show is about! He's Shuichi's best friend. He is the COOLEST character in Gravitation. But no one cares. Why? Because he's the only one not prancing around, crying like a baby, or kissing other guys. What the crap is that all about?

Hiro's Role in Gravitation: Hiro is the best friend of Shuichi, the main character of the show. The two of them started the band "Bad Luck" together, trying to make it big. One day, while Shuichi was writing lyrics for their songs, this really big jerk named Yuki comes up and tells him his lyrics are crap. Shuichi gets all upset, but then somehow decides he's really obsessed with this guy and they end up kissing. And yaoi fans scream. So then Shuichi goes off to tell his best friend some unexpected news. Now, this is the first time we see what kind of guy Hiro is. Shuichi explains "Remember that guy who I hate? I love him now. We're going to move in together. And by the way, I like boys."

Now, most guys at this point would either beat the crap out of their friends for being weird and/or tell them to straighten up and hook them up with some girly mags. What does Hiro do? He, the terribly understanding friend that he is, tells Shuichi that if it makes him happy, he will support Shuichi's choice. THEN, Hiro goes over to Yuki's place and tells him that if Yuki ever did break Shuichi's heart, he would (despite the face that Yuki is MUCH larger than Hiro and looks like he could rip his arm off and slap him around with it) come over and kick his teeth in. Sometimes, I really don't want to claim you, Shuichi
Hiro's best friend Shuichi. Whom he still
talks to despite the fact that he once dressed up like a girl.

Hiro continues this roll throughout the story. No matter what stupid mess Shuichi gets himself into, Hiro is always there for him at the drop of a hat. Always trying to understand and help him. And Shuichi does some really STOOPID stuff. ButI suppose that's what a real friend is. It's someone who knows just how stupid you really are and is your friend anyway. This is Hiro all over.
This is the thing that really makes Hiro one of my favorite characters of all time despite the fact that the show he comes from is very low on my list. He is the best friend anyone could have and I think everyone hopes that they could have at least one friend like him. True friends that understand and take you just the way you are are very hard to come by. Who would have thought we would find one here in such a shallow anime? Get my agent on the phone RIGHT NOW!
Hiro just found out he's
been cast in a shounen-ai anime.

Why Hiro is this month's bishounen: Well, his personality, of course, which we just discussed. I don't care how hot a guy is. When they're being big jerks *cough*Yuki*cough* it's just not attractive. With Hiro, his personality just adds to the appeal because Hiroshi is a total BABE. He is HOT!
This was another reason I was surprised not to see much mention of him on fan sites. When people are counting off their top favorite Gravitation bishounen, he his hardly ever mentioned. Why is this? Have these people not SEEN him? He is so yummy in that rock outfit of his with the black pants and the blue button up shirt. *drool* HELLO! He plays the GUITAR! Any guy is twice as hot with a guitar in their hands and you know it. What happened to that good, old fashioned dream of dating a rock star of the band? Has that dream lost its appeal already? Or is that not the problem?
Oh yeah, I forgot what show he was in. Hiro also likes the ladies. That's a strike against him in the Gravitation fan community. Any person who likes watching Shuichi cry about how Yuki doesn't love him for thirteen episodes wouldn't possibly be interested in why Hiro is a cool guy. Sorry Hiro. It's a shallow fan base for a shallow show. If you're not kissing other dudes or walking around with a bunny like some kindergarden mental case, then no one's going to notice you. So I hope this little rant makes up for some of the neglect. And, if you ever start to feel under appreciated, you can always drop by my place. I certainly won't mind. ;)

~Ty-Chou

Kime: Yay! Great pick, Ty-chou. Hiroshi is totally my fave character from Gravitation. He plays the guitar and has that sexy long red hair. Oh yeah, baby! Gotta love that hair. I also agree with Ty-chou that he is probably the best friend someone could have. He puts up with so much crap from Shuichi yet still cares for and supports his friend. If he ever does come by your place, Ty-chou, gimmie a call and I'll come runnin' over!! Gotta make sure Hiro knows he's loved . . . by girls!

Nie-chan: That is so funny tYCHou... I love reading your rantings. I probably don't feel AS harsh toward the show as tYCHou does, but some of the points I do agree with. Well, this is Gravi's turn to be in the spotlight, it is for Hiro!! Hiro is the best! Probably one of the reasons I kept watching the show, he is just too cool for words. I'll leave it at that. ^_^

No-chan: So mean you are, our beloved Ty-chou!! You're always SO mean to shows that I happen to like! *shakes her head sadly* I definitely don't agree with most of your feelings about this show.. I kinda like it, and don't think that the animation is bad.. The style is certainly very nice, and the characters are nice to look at! At least it's entertaining!! But that's not what I'm supposed to be talking about! I DO agree that Hiro is VERY hot, and an excellent friend. And an underappreciated bishie! SO sad, that so many people are misguided and like to see guys kiss instead of dreaming of a hot guy kissing girls.. or, to be more particular, ones self! I'm glad you picked him, nonetheless. Good job, Ty-chou!

Pan Pan: aw... so slow. I'm the last to put up comments this month... and the month is almost over! So sorry! Um, I haven't seen Gravitation... So I don't have a really strong opinion either way... (well, the first episode, does that count?) But the pics of Hiro are babe-tastic. And who doesn't love a rock n' roll star? I'm sure when I finally get around to watching Gravi, Hiro will be a favorite. Until then... I'll just drool over the pics...

Next Month: No-Chan's pick
