Leon and Chris
Okay, so they're not any kind of pet, but humans are still animals, right? Leon Orcot is a moody detective who is
often found at the petshop grilling D about the latest strange occurrence or just freeloading at tea time. In the
beginning, Leon was dead set on hauling the count's skinny butt into the slammer. But as time went on, all his efforts
seemed in vain. There was never enough evidence and no one else he worked with believed D to be anything else than a
harmless shop owner. These days, Leon seems to have accepted his fate. While he still blames D for just about everything,
he seems to have almost given up trying to convict him. He's even allowed D to babysit his little brother Chris while
he's on duty. Apparently, he has very little other friends to ask...
Chris Orcot is an interesting child. His and Leon's parents are now dead. He had been living with his aunt and
uncle for a while, but he was so unhappy there, he stopped talking completely to anyone. Unwillingly, Leon agrees to take
care of his little brother for the time being. Unable to watch him while at his job, Leon had no choice but to leave him
at D's petshop while on duty. There, Chris discovers a whole new world. Even though he does not speak, Count D seems to
understand him quite easily, as well as all the other "people" in the shop. Here, Chris makes many friends and is slowly
working his way to recovering and finding the place he truly belongs. One thing he can't figure out, however, is why he
hasn't seen any animals in this particular petshop. |

Honlon
On his first day at the petshop, Chris runs into a little girl. At least, that's how he sees her. Honlon's first
appearance was that of an egg that D accidentally gave to a family for Christmas instead of a turtle egg. Leon, though
he didn't believe he was going to retrieve a real dragon egg, went with D to swap them before Christmas morning. As it
turns out, when this dragon hatches, it takes on the personality of whomever cared for it before it hatched. Having
been held by three people, the dragon was born with three heads. When Chris stumbles on Honlon, he sees her as a little
girl with three personalities. One is childish, having taken after a little boy who held the egg. The second is calm
and collected like Count D and the third has quite a temper thanks to Leon. Needless to say, the Count D personality
and the Leon personality don't get along too well.

T-Chan
T-Chan is a Totetsu. A Chinese mythical beast said to have the face of a man, a tiger's fangs, and the body and
horns of a sheep. It is also said to only eat the flesh of humans. Count D found him almost by accident. To the rest of
the world, he looked human and was arrested as a serial killer. D promised the Totetsu that if he submitted to him, he
would make sure he would never have to, in D's words "...worry about catching
food since the food is more than willing to come to you." Thus, Leon is surprised (and a bit annoyed) to suddenly see
a strange goat creature roaming the shop and often attacking and chewing on him.
When Chris met T-Chan, the totetsu wanted to eat him. That may have sounded weird to Chris since T-Chan looks to him
like an exotic young man with horns on his head. Chris seems to eventually grow on T-Chan. The man-eating beast is soon
seen following him around like a dog and acting like his body guard.

Pon-Chan
Pon-Chan is cute as a button. To Chris, she's a tiny little girl with curls; hardly half his size. In reality, she's
a raccoon--the only continuously occurring creature in the shop that isn't of mythic origin. Despite her size, she often
plays a kind of motherly roll when Chris is around. She's usually the one to make sure he takes his bath, brushes his
teeth, etc while Count D and Leon bicker and forget all about him.
In the 9th volume of Petshop, Chris is kidnaped and Pon-Chan runs to Leon and tells him what happened. And, strangely
enough, Leon understands everything she says. She, Chris, and T-Chan are always together. They make such a cute trio.

Ten-Chan
Ten-Chan makes his appearance when a family comes in looking for a pet, but each family member wants a different animal.
So D graciously gives them Ten-Chan, who it seems, has the power to look like any animal the owner wants them to be.
Hence, the entire family was satisfied, each thinking they got what they wanted. Ten-Chan looks kind of punkish
and he speaks very disrespectfully to everyone--even Count D. In the end, Leon steps in and we see his real form through
the detective's eyes as a nine tailed fox which is a creature of trickery to Asian cultures.
