The two of them, plus another cousin and friend, Sohma Hatori, are known as the "Mabudachi Trio" .. loosely translated as "the Super Handsome Blossom Trio" but fans have also called them "The Three Musketeers." They are all pretty much the same age, all cursed with different spirits of the Juunishi, and have all grown up together, and gone to school together. The three of them have an interesting relationship. Shigure (Ayame: 'Gure-san!) and Ayame, when they get together, "flirt"... (much to the disgust of the younger cousins, Kyo and Yuki) and then afterwards, give each other a Thumb's up and declare "Yosh!!" which usually gets a "Aren't you two sick of that YET?" and rolled eyes from Hatori (Ayame: Tori-san!). Ayame and Hatori have an interesting relationship.. Hatori seems to be the only one who seems to be able to control Ayame when he's overly excited.

More Background - Ayame has a younger brother, Yuki. He's ten years older than him, and refused to help Yuki when he was a child and locked up in the Sohma compound under their cousin Akito's "care." He's trying to make up for it now, but he tends to get too excited about being a big brother, and annoys Yuki, who beats him to a snakey pulp. Though in a recent chapter of the manga, he came to Yuki's aid during Parent-Teacher conferences and overruled things their mother was telling the teacher quite succinctly, so I'd say he's doing a good job of trying to be a big brother and making up for their past nicely. He was the Class President in High School, and got students into and out of trouble, along with explaining away his long hair so he wouldn't have to cut it. Ayame now owns a store which he named "Ayame" and has a woman named Mine (pronounced Mee-nay) assisting him. The store is for custom-made clothing, and he makes costume type dresses and outfits for females... and males... as we see when he comes running toward Yuki in a wedding dress, and explains that he was fitting it for a male customer. (Ayame: It's all for MAN's ROMANCE!! No-chan: Yes, Yes.. we KNOW! Now sit down and have some tea..)

Personality - Well.. Ayame is definitely over the top. When I first watched the series and he appeared like a whirlwind, I didn't know what to think. He was so overwhelming!! But the more I watched him, the more I fell in love with his character. I don't know what it is about the guys who tend to act at least a little fruity.. but I'm inexorably drawn to them (scary!)! Ayame can be overbearing, over the top, and completely mind numbing, but when you get down to it, he's got some really great philosophies on life, even if they don't always come across the way he wants them to, and he respects those who he feels deserve it. Yeah, his ego is inflated, but he knows when there is someone who out-classes him and gives them his utmost attention. I.E.: How, even though he is enjoying his argument with Yuki and completely ignoring everything around him, as soon as Hatori walks in and says "come on, let's go." he jumps to, says "Ja Bye Bye!" to everyone in the room and trounces out after him. He also listens to the things Tohru has to say quietly and in utter awe of her maturity. He's a roller coaster ride I tell you!! Fun to listen to even when he's being serious talking to Yuki about their past and then jumping back into his MAN's ROMANCE speech without even blinking an eye
